Considering the advances in laser eye surgery technology, it’s not surprising that the advertising of the practice creates the notion that it’s not only routine, but as easy as pushing a button. Nothing could be further from the truth, says Michelle LaGrange, the business development manager at Eye Q Premium Laser.
“When people come in to have laser eye surgery, that’s essentially a reshaping of the cornea,” she says. “So, personally, if I were to have laser eye surgery, I would want to have somebody doing it who was a corneal specialist. The laser equipment is automated, but it still helps to have a corneal specialist operate them.”
Eye Q, fortunately, has two of the best corneal specialists in the city: Dr. Joseph Leong-Sit — who started the company in 2008, 11 years after he started practicing ophthalmology — and Dr. Dean Mah, who has been practicing for more than a decade. Between the two, they have treated thousands of patients with their expertise ranging from laser eye procedures to extremely difficult cases of cornea transplants and cataract surgery in a hospital environment. A third partner, Dr. F.L. Leong-Sit, Joseph’s father and co-founder of Eye Q, retains his ophthalmology practice at the facility.
