Best friends, sisters-in-law, former roommates and dedicated business partners Alysia Lok and Tammy Lok make the perfect team. Both women are the children of immigrants, embodying their parents’ tenacity and tirelessness by doing whatever it takes to reach their goals. Plus, both their families work in the food industry, too. Even with so much in common, however, each of them brings distinct abilities and personalities to their business partnership.
While Alysia is shy, she is also genuine, and it’s her culinary skills that culminated in the original recipe that started Caramia Caramels. “She tries to achieve the best,” says Tammy of Alysia. “And she tries to produce the best so she doesn’t disappoint the people that she loves. It’s really, truly what’s in her heart that drives her and motivates her to do the things that she does. I trust her so much as a business partner.”
In contrast, Tammy is what Alysia describes as “this outgoing personality that draws people in; she’s really the face of the business.” Coming from a marketing background, Tammy loves the creativity that Caramia Caramels inspires and allows her to play with. Her business intuition and marketing background are a perfect match for Alysia’s culinary instincts. Both Tammy and Alysia are modest – their successes take them by surprise – and yet, their unique combination of skills are what make Caramia Caramels such a success.
