Taking Mom out for a relaxing brunch on Mother’s Day is an appropriate way to thank her for all her love, guidance and patient parenting. A number of restaurants are serving extra-special brunch menus on Mother’s Day weekend, 2016. Find one that suits Mom’s tastes and reserve a table early – it’s one of the busiest brunch times of the year.
A short country drive southeast of Calgary, Aspen Crossing Tree Farm and Garden Centre also features campsites, a gift shop and a Mother’s Day weekend buffet brunch in its stationary, antique Canadian Pacific dining-car eatery. Eats include pancakes, sausage, bacon, eggs Benedict, chicken, ribs and pasta. Adults, $17. Seatings: May 7 and 8, 9 am to 3 pm. This is also home base for the round-trip Aspen Crossing Railway train tour. Its onboard champagne brunch is available Sundays starting May 8. Adults, $106; kids, $50, two years and under, free. Excursions run 11 am to 2 pm.
Overlooking the shiny historical hotrods of Heritage Park Historical Village’s Gasoline Alley Museum, brunch is served on the mezzanine level. Whether or not Mom is an auto buff, she’ll definitely dig the high-octane eats. Choose from buttermilk pancakes, Belgian waffles, back-bacon Benedict, roasted chicken, cedar-plank salmon and much more. Also visit the made-to-order omelet station and the carving station serving Alberta strip loin and Valbella ham. Adults, $33; kids three to 11, $23; two and under free. Brunch attendees receive a discount on Gasoline Alley admission. Seatings: May 8, 10 am to 2 pm.
