Cibo Trattoria

The good people at Cibo Trattoria have seen fit to extend their brunch service to run from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Mother’s Day. The new a-la-carte menu includes whole grain and nut granola, panettone French toast, and spaghetti carbonara with house-cured lamb bacon. If you’re looking to celebrate later in the day, the first of Cibo’s ‘Mangia Famiglia’ Sunday supper series offers a hearty dinner served family-style for $27 per guest. And to drink? Sabine Dhaliwal – recently crowned Vancouver Magazine’s Bartender of the Year – has created The Tesoro, a special drink just for Mom.

Bacchus Restaurant & Lounge

If you’re looking for Old World European charm to celebrate Mother’s Day, then Bacchus Restaurant and Lounge at the Wedgewood Hotel is just the place. They’re putting on a special three-course brunch service for Mom that includes the likes of tomato watermelon gazpacho with chilled poached scallops or traditional beef tartar for starters. Mains include brioche French toast with chicken basil sausage, gently poached halibut, or a crispy duck confit with poached egg. And to round it all off, dessert options run from a stilton cheesecake with rhubarb compote and a port reduction, to a Bailey’s Sundae.

Boulevard Kitchen & Oyster Bar

Mother’s Day at Boulevard features special three-course prix-fixe brunch and dinner menus at $65 each. Brunch runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and features options like clam chowder, Canadian bacon Benedict, and Mom’s Best Sunday Roast (slow-cooked prime striploin with Yorkshire pudding and bone marrow jus). Dinner starts at 5 p.m. and offers up slow-poached West Coast oysters, red wine braised pork cheeks or Maple Hill Farms ‘Duck a l’Orange’. And don’t forget dessert! Mom will get to indulge her sweet tooth with either a chocolate tart or cheesecake.

Yew Seafood + Bar

Located at the Four Seasons Hotel, Yew is known for its decadent brunch buffet, and they’re pulling out all the stops for Mother’s Day. For $88 per person, you’ll a seemingly unending selection of pastries, a full soup and salad bar, a raw bar with the likes of smoked and cured fish and a selection of East Coast oysters, a carvery for herb roasted chicken and salt crusted ribeye, lobster Bennies, French toast, blueberry pancakes and so much more. There are also plenty of options for kids, including mac n’ cheese, mini beef sliders and a variety of delicious desserts.

L'Abattoir Office

Gastown mainstay and perennial hotspot L’Abattoir is raising a glass to Mother’s Day with its Bubbles at Brunch service from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on May 14. A select list of Champagnes and sparkling wines will be offered at special prices to accompany the decadent brunch menu. Highlights include poached eggs with smoked pork belly, served with cheddar sabayon and a homemade English muffin; crepes stuffed with ricotta and lemon zest, served with fresh berries and crème diplomat; and steelhead salad with poached egg, smoky buckwheat pancake and Hollandaise.

Dockside Restaurant

A visit to Dockside on Granville Island is the perfect way to pack plenty of fun into your Mother’s Day. Whether you decide to tour the market and shops before or after brunch, Dockside’s marketplace buffet brunch will be sure to satisfy (and more!). It includes a host of seafood options including smoked Sockeye and trout, peppered mackerel, chilled mussels, snow crab claws and poached prawns. There’s also a continental breakfast station, and eggs Benedict and omelette station, a butchery, Dockside’s legendary chilli squid and a variety of mouth-watering desserts.

Brunch at highly acclaimed Farmer’s Apprentice will surely put a smile on Mom’s face this Mother’s Day. Possibly the only thing better might be their exclusive six-course ‘Just Like Mom’ dinner menu ($65), featuring gourmet takes on the restaurant team’s childhood favourites. Look for elevated yet nostalgic dishes such as meatloaf, Yorkshire pudding, raspberry ketchup and farmhouse cheddar sauce; vegetable lasagna; and pork chop with mushroom sauce, wild rose and chocolate cookies, and vanilla and tonka bean ice cream.

This Mother’s Day, treat Mom to a truly special creation from Vancouver’s premier chocolatier and pastry chef. The Jewelry Box ($39) is a signature offering of Champagne truffles topped with handmade chocolate flowers, all in a jewelry box. If Mom is all about pastries and baked goods, then a heart-shaped strawberry shortcake will help her feel the love on her special day ($22 for 4 services; $42 for 10). It features almond orange cake on a shortbread crust, topped with Tahitian vanilla cream and fresh strawberries.

Back in the 1920s during Prohibition, Americans had to sneak into speakeasies if they wanted a drink.
