The steady hum of classic hip-hop flowing through the speakers combine with the sound of sizzling chicken in the fryer and provides the standard of a good time at Northern Chicken. For executive chefs Matt Phillips and Andrew Cowan, that was always the intention for their casual fried chicken joint located in central Edmonton.
Deciding to embrace a slower pace, the longtime friends sought to open a place where they could listen to good music, spend time with family and friends and serve truly good food. Their background in fast-paced kitchens all over Edmonton is reflected in the simple yet elevated Southern-style menu. “Andrew and I have a love for the South – it's simplicity and good ingredients, treated very well," Matt says.
