We were visiting Niagara on the Lake with some friends and were recommended to try this place by our Bed and Breakfast. We loved everything about the place. We sat out on the patio and we had a great meal and the service was fantastic. It was the best night we spent in Niagara on the Lake, we had a wonderful time and will definitely be visiting this restaurant again.
Amazing atmosphere with paintings and glass patterns along the walls. It is low lit, giving it a romantic feel. The restaurant is quite small and the waiters are friendly.The food was excellent. Although, to a cheap student, it was on the expensive side and will be good for special occasions. We had the calamari appetizer that was topped with a fresh tomato sauce. It was not deep fried like most calamari dishes. My boyfriend had a penne dish that he very much enjoyed while I had a very fresh salad. Make reservations ahead of time if you want to get in, it is a very small restaurant. Everything was great, we will return.
We were extremely impressed by the food and the service at this little place in St. Davids near Niagara on the Lake. We started with a table Caesar salad that we shared, and it came with a freshly baked loaf (deliciously crusty, steaming bread). My wife had the NY striploin Monter au Beurre with roasted potatoes and grilled vegetables. The steak was perfectly medium rare as requested, and amazingly tender. I had the Penne Pelagos with shrimp, scallops and clams, in an olive oil, herb and garlic sauce with peppers, capers, olives and red onions. It was absolutely delicious! Then to top it off, we decided to have the Creme Brulee, made fresh in house, garnished with fresh mint. It was unbelievably good! I've had Creme Brulee in France, and this was equal to the best I've had. Even the coffee was delicious. The only criticism I can make of this place is that it could use some fresh paint on the outside (it was a bit old and peeling), and the inside could have used a bit of sprucing up. But all in all, it was a truly amazing dinner, and very reasonably priced. Our bill was only $95 before tip, and that included two glasses of wine. We will definitely go back, and recommend it to anyone reading this!
Second time here. Atmosphere was ruined by a loud, obnoxious man at the bar who thought everyone in the restaurant was interested in his stories. Salad was the best part of the meal--very fresh & tasty. Pasta was okay. Broccoli was overcooked and mushy and I prefer my veg al dente. Chicken had quite a few grisly bits on it--kind of ruined it for me. My husband enjoyed the veal, vegetables and roasted potatoes. Service wasn't great...especially considering there were only 3 tables including us. We were asked how everything was at the end of the meal when the server was clearing our plates. The Old Firehall Restaurant didn't impress me so I probably won't be going back.
